Community Organizing Fellow
Job Description & Information
Michigan Faith in Action is a community of Faith-Rooted, Multicultural people, who mobilize to support issues that matter to the community. Bringing people of faith, institutions, and organizations together to build community and address the root causes and results of poverty, violence and division.
Michigan Faith in Action Headquarters is based in Flint, Michigan.
Current Locations of Organizing with Michigan: Flint, Jackson, Battle Creek, and growing in Northwest Michigan (Frankfort, Benzonia, Beulah, etc.)
Responsibilities & Skills of Position:
20-25 hours a week
Re-engaging or engaging with (10) number of congregations
Conduct listening campaigns in same ten (+) congregations
Build a team of volunteers to drive voter work (canvassing teams and phone banking)for fall election
Voter Data Entry
Goal of 10 listening campaigns over the course of job
Conduct 1-1 meetings with clergy and
Some light lifting, periods of standing
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Participate in trainings & coalition meetings
Position is partly remote but will require in person 1-1 and group meetings
Position will require short distance travel
Ideal candidate will be willing and excited to meet with and build relationships with a wide variety of people from various faiths, belief systems, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds
Ideal candidates will display deep curiosity about people, communities, and systems, and a commitment to the betterment of Michigan for ALL people.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
College degree
Experience as an organizer
Experience working with faith communities, clergy, or houses of worship
Commitment to community, social, racial, and economic justice
Experience:
Must have a valid drivers license.
Must have reliable transportation.
Training will be provided.
Knowledge of VAN or MINIVAN software
Basic technology skills & computer skills.
Comfortable working with Zoom or Google Meet.
Comfortable working in faith communities and houses of worship as well as poor and blue collar neighborhoods.
Ability to work independently and also collaboratively.
Recommended not required:
Be a resident of said city or surrounding county that you will be Community Organizing for.
Compensation: $20/hour
Benefits: Mileage Reimbursed (Not for Daily Commute)
